I have a couple of routes that have been created to do some inspections. They cover 28 different assets.  Right now they are set up where the “route stops become child work orders”.  This makes one main WO and then many WO for the children assets and when the Main route WO is closed it closes the child WO's as well.  This cause us to have alot of WO without Labor and costs associated and messes up the Reports that are run monthly.  I thought that I could change the Route setting to where the route stops “become entries in the Work Orders Multi Asset, Location, and Cl tables”, and this would fix our reporting issues with costs.  It doesn't seem to work the way I thought It would.

So when a cost is applied to a Route, where does it go or what is it charged to?  How do I get it to charge to multiple assets and not leave me omissions in the labor, supervisor, lead or any other area.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Thomas

Is there a way to have the child work orders divide up the labor and other costs from the parent work order with out going into each child work order and inputting the labor and costs into them?  I was under the impression that if I put 10 hrs of labor on a parent WO with 5 child WO's, it would divide the labor equally and give each child WO 2 hrs labor.

Also what does it mean when I select The Route Stops will Become “

I can answer to the Routes.

The three options behave as follows:

  • Child Work Orders
  • This will create a Parent workorder with each route stop as a separate Child Work Order.
  • *** Note the description of the work order will be useless.  Set each Route Stop's Description (hit the expand arrow) to something meaningful.
  • Entries in the Work Order's Multi Asset, Location and CI Table
    • This will create a “note” on the front of the work order.  Each line can be flagged with a checkbox for progress.
  • Work Order Tasks
    • This will create a separate task for each route stop under the PLANS tab.  This allows you to optionally status each route stop independently and optionally put labor on each line.
    • This is similar to the Multi-Asset choice but allows for granular financials and also you can order parts against individual tasks, etc….
    • Be sure to set the route stop's description to something meaningful or you will get ASSETNUM||ASSET.DESCRIPTION as the task title.
    • IMPORTANT NOTE:  if you add a job plan with individual steps, these will show up in the same list, which is confusing.  Since we didn't need to assign individual tasks on a job plan, or record labor/materials to individual job plan steps, we opted to use jobplan for planning labor amounts/shops involved and then attaching a jobplan as a checklist document at the PM so it prints out with the work order.

I thought there was a way to distribute the costs, but have yet to find it….

If you have child work orders, you can uncheck the ‘Inherit Status Changes?’ checkbox so when the parent is closed, the child work order status remains the same.  You can then add labor hours to the child record.

    Hi Thomas,

In addition to Chon’s reference on Route setting above, you also need to remember to uncheck “Inherit Status Changes” checkbox in your PM.

    Hi,

Can you please explain the difference between Work Order’s Multi Asset, Location and CI Table and WO tasks. Both options have similar outcome? i. e a list of assets on task lines
