Does the REST functionality depend on the Integration Framework?

 Hello,

I am currently testing the Maximo REST API in Maximo 7.5.0.0.  It seems to work fine when inserting/updating Locations and Assets, but it will not update or create any Location Specification values on those locations/assets, nor will it handle any Meter functionality.

Is this because I do not have the Maximo Integration Framework installed?  Why does some of the REST API work without the Integration Framework but large portion depends on it?  To install the Integration Framework I would need to upgrade to 7.5.0.4 then install it, would that fix my issues?

Thank you for the help!

REST is built on top of the integration framework which is included in Maximo 7.5.  You should have an “Integration” module in maximo so you can configure it as you like.  There are many different ways to use REST/MIF so depending on your needs you may need to use Object Structures.  The REST/MIF is limited so you can’t do everything with it.

Chon, thank you for your answer.  I do indeed have the “Integration” module in Maximo and I have configured the Object Structure to how I need, but in 7.5.0.0 I am still unable to update LOCATIONSPEC data through the REST.

I have two environments set up, both of them have the External Systems, Object Structures and everything set up in the exact same way.  In this first Maximo environment, I am able to insert and update LOCATIONSPEC data with no problem through the REST API:

Version Tivoli’s process automation engine 7.5.0.5 Build 20130903-1504 DB Build V7505-43
IBM TPAE Integration Framework 7.5.1.0 Build 20130829-1209 DB Build V7510-28
IBM Maximo Linear Management 7.5.0.0 Build 20130903-1504 DB Build V7500-01
IBM Maximo Asset Management 7.5.0.5 Build 201309040937 DB Build V7503-01

In this other environment (again, the Integration configuration is set up the exact same) I am unable to update or insert any LOCATIONSPEC data using the REST API:

Version

Tivoli’s process automation engine 7.5.0.0 Build 20110413-2230 DB Build V7500-721
IBM Maximo Linear Management 7.5.0.0 Build BUILD DB Build V7500-01
IBM Maximo Asset Management 7.5.0.0 Build 20110415-0030 DB Build V7500-00

Is this because the second environment doesn’t have the Integration Framework installed?  If I install the integration framework will I then be able to insert/update LOCATIONSPEC data?  This is the only difference that I can see between the environments.

Thank you.

Update:

For anyone that may look here at a later date, my hypothesis was correct.  A number of the REST API functionality depends on the upgraded version of Maximo with the Integration Framework installed.  I installed fix pack 7.5.0.6 which included the Integration Framework, and all of my issues that i was seeing were resolved (I believe you could even install as low as 7.5.0.4 to fix it though).
